"Associations have an opportunity to be a trusted resource, a trusted adviser, and liaison… Associations can literally help to elevate the behavior of an entire industry, trade, or profession. Getting results in a way that inspires trust is not only the right thing to do, but is the economic thing to do . . . and that is good business for us all.” Stephen Covey

Latest News-Canada Contractors Welcome!
REMEMBER we have great special on dues for under-represented areas, check the Become A Member page and if your area isn't listed simply submit the request for info form and we will let you know if your area qualifies.

Canada is Now Open and ONLY $100 to start!!.
We have developed a way to allow consumers to find contractors in Canada. So far we only have a couple of members there but several asked in the past and we didn't have a way. But if you are a Canadian Contractor willing to adhere to the high standards of the NPCA you are now welcome to join (AND all for only $100 a year w/all benefits for the initial Canadian members!)
-------------------------------------------------

WOW-10 Years went by in a hurry! Here we are celebrating our 10th Anniversary Year!
We still an ambitious goal of greatly increasing our membership-our new board is looking at some other solutions we might offer the "big box" chains and such to make using our members even more attractive than it is now (mainly faster/easier-those folks always want anything easier & faster because they are super-busy)
The the economy has hit everyone hard. It took a while to get everywhere but the whole nation is struggling now. BUT our searches by consumers have increased as consumers look for quality (especially large increases in paving but in all services in general). We have had decent results recruiting new members but not what we had hoped, no big surprise considering how crazy the economy was in 2009.
Now at our 10th Anniversary
We still have a HUGE need for members in "The West" California and AZ, NV, OR, and WA--these states are getting hundreds of searches with few contractors for results;, especially California; we understand contractors there may have had some bad experiences with some old "California" associations but they are long gone-so if you think the NPCA needs something different for "the west" Let us know!
We have big discounts for these and other under-represented areas.
We must grow to be truly "national" and offer the type services the "big boxes" and "chains" have been telling us they want these days as times change. In the last 2 years we have added More Member Benefits than EVER and we have some great plans coming up to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Any association is only as strong as its member involvement so we will continue to involve members more--WE want your ideas and input NOW.

The "NEW" Second Decade NPCA will be reorganized, already our web site has many capabilities we aren't using yet and we want to add even more soon so your business as a member stands out even more from your competition. If we can get enough members to do what some chains have told us they want you may not even have competition if they aren't an NPCA member!

All NPCA members should be proud to be serving 61,835 First Time visitors and a total of 136,875 visitors totaled for 2009. Looking for QUALITY Contractors nobody else is serving in this industry compared to just over 50,000 total back a couple of years in 2007. We have increased 150% in visitors in 2 years as the economy slowed!

Consumers Remember... you must register to post for now but your info is private and not kept for any reason or used for any lists--the spammers figured out how to get past our "CAPTCHA" so we had up to 100 "spam" posts a day for the moderators to delete and sometimes a real post got deleted by mistake in the clutter. We assure you we don't like you having to bother with registering to ask a consumer question and if we can find a way to stop the spammers we will go back to non-registration for consumers to ask questions in the top forum section.

Interesting idea on intersections:

from: Popular Science

Want to avoid gridlock? Drive on the wrong side of the road. In July, traffic engineers in Springfield, Missouri, reconfigured the jammed I-44/Kansas Expressway interchange. The new design does away with risky left turns. The street approaching the highway now diverts to the left, and cars get uninterrupted access to the highway, which, experts say, can reduce clogging by as much as 60 percent. Think of it as a one-way street. Drivers who want to turn left onto the highway can do so without crossing oncoming traffic. Through-traffic, meanwhile, stays on the left side of the road until it reaches a second stoplight, where it passes back over to the right. The Federal Highway Administration estimates that the diverging diamond configuration, the first in the U.S., enables 600 left turns onto the freeway per hour per lane—double that of an ordinary interchange, where drivers cross oncoming traffic. Plans are under way to implement similar designs around Kansas City and St. Louis.

That would confuse the common, simple Yinzer.

I know, but I've always tried to think of a "perfect intersection" idea.

that looks far from perfect to me...very confusing. Especially when you factor in a drunk driver or an elderly driver. lookout!
